First announcement


The Department of Metal Physics, Charles University Prague, has been regularly organising International Symposia on Plasticity of Metals and Alloys (ISPMA). The series started in 1972. The last Symposium with a title International Symposium on Physics of Materials was held in Prague in the year 2003. The next Symposium ISPMA 10 organised in cooperation with the Metals Science Society of Czech Republic will focus on fundamental and applied aspects of physics of alloys, intermetallics, non-metallic materials, composites, submicrocrystalline and nanocrystalline materials, and materials science.
There will be special symposia dedicated to Prof. P. Lukáč on the occasion of his 70th birthday and to Dr. F. Kroupa on the occasion of this 80th birthday.

The Symposium will be held in the fully reconstructed historical building of the former Jesuit College close to the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Mala Strana Square (near the Prague Castle). It is our intention to held the Symposium as a Satellite Conference of EUROMAT 2005 (September 5 - 9, 2005, Prague).


The official language of the Symposium will be English. Both invited lectures (40 min + 10 min for discussion) and other contributions (15 min + 5 min for discussion) will be presented orally. A book of abstracts will be available at the Symposium. The manuscripts have to be submitted at the registration. After reviewing the contributions will be published in the Symposium Proceedings which will appear as a special issue of Materials Science & Engineering A.


Prospective authors are requested to submit a one-page abstract by December 31, 2004. The abstracts containing the title, name of author(s), and affiliation(s) should be written in MS Word for Windows text editor (A4 or 8.5x11 in. sheet, left margin 3 cm, other margins 2.5 cm, font size 12, line spacing 1.5) and sent as an attachment via E-mail. A booklet of abstracts will be available before the Symposium.

The number of participants will be limited to about 120. All prospective participants are kindly asked to fill in the Preliminary Registration Form (click below) and return it to the Organizing Committee by December 31, 2004
