Second Announcement


The Department of Metal Physics, Charles University Prague, has been regularly organising International Symposia on Plasticity of Metals and Alloys (ISPMA). The series started in 1972. The last Symposium with a title International Symposium on Physics of Materials 9 was held in Prague in the year 2003. The next Symposium ISPMA 10 organised in cooperation with the Metals Science Society of the Czech Republic will focus on fundamental and applied aspects of physics of alloys, intermetallics, non-metallic materials, composites, submicrocrystalline and nanocrystalline materials, and materials science.

Lukáč (Czech Republic), D. Morris (Spain), J. W. Morris, Jr. (USA), A. Mortensen (Switzerland), E. Nes (Norway), Y. Shirai (Japan), P. Šittner (Czech Republic), S. Tsurekawa (Japan), and V. Vitek (USA) will give the key lectures on these subjects.


The Symposium will be held in the historical building of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Malostranské námestí 25, Prague 1 - Malá Strana. The participants are expected to arrive on Monday, August 29. The Symposium will start with a welcome party on Monday evening. The scientific program will start on Tuesday, August 30, in the morning and end on Friday, September 2, in the afternoon. The Symposium will be held as a Satellite Conference of EUROMAT 2005 (September 5 - 9, 2005, Prague).
The registration office will be open on Monday from 14:00 to 20:00 and on Tuesday.


The symposium fee is

380 EURif paid before May 31, 2005
420 EURif paid after May 31, 2005

The Symposium fee includes organising costs, Symposium Proceedings, lunches, and social program (welcome party, concert, Symposium dinner). The fee does not include the accommodation costs.

The participation is also possible at a reduced fee

250 EUR

which does not include Symposium Proceedings, lunches, and social program.

The Organising Committee offers a grant covering board and accommodation at a student residence for 5 days (travel costs are not included) for 3 young scientists up to 28 from the Eastern Europe or developing countries, who will participate actively at the Symposium (conference fee is waived). The applicants are requested to submit immediately an application to the Organising Committee. The application should contain a brief CV, the abstract of the paper to be presented at ISPMA10, a list of publications and a recommendation letter signed by a recognised senior scientist. The application will be evaluated by the members of the International Committee and the successful candidates will be informed by the end of April 2005.

The fee for accompanying persons is

80 EUR

and covers the social program.

The Organising Committee of ISPMA 10 does not arrange the accommodation of Symposium participants. The accommodation can be arranged through the travel agency ITC Travel & Conference s.r.o. which is an official partner of the Organising Committee of ISPMA 10. The official language of the Symposium will be English. Both invited lectures (30 min + 10 min for discussion) and contributed papers (15 min + 5 min for discussion) will be presented orally in two parallel sections.
A book of abstracts will be available at the Symposium. The participants that intend to make slight changes in abstracts already sent to the Organising Committee are requested to submit the revised abstract before May 31, 2005. For abstracts, please, use the template given in the 1st announcement (abstract template).
The manuscripts should be submitted at the registration office. The submission deadline is August 30, 2005. After reviewing the contributions will be published in the Symposium Proceedings that will appear as a special issue of the Materials Science & Engineering A. The length of papers is limited to 8 printed pages for keynote papers and 4 pages for contributed papers. For a rough estimate, one printed two-column page corresponds approximately to 850 words or to 4 figures. For authors instructions see the following material (detailed authors instructions).
